Providing Comfort and Care: Room Occupancy at the RCV

The Rainbow Children’s Village (RCV) is a partnership between Roundtable Zimbabwe who donated the land, Meikles Foundation, and KidzCan Zimbabwe who came with the seed funding and various other partners with a shared goal of providing a clean and safe home environment for children suffering from cancer before and after treatment.

Our Story

Initiated in 2017, RCV has been made possible through the generosity of partners and donors, who have contributed to the project. With a total budget of $1.57 million, the village has been developed in phases to accommodate more children and their caregivers.

Milestones

Phase 1: Completed in 2023 with 5 rooms, marking the beginning of our journey to support children with cancer.

Phase 2: Completed in 2024, adding 10 rooms and bringing the total to 15 rooms, further expanding our capacity to care for more children and their families.

Phase 3: Now in motion.

Occupancy Rates

The Rainbow Children’s Village has been well-utilized since its inception. Here’s a breakdown of our occupancy rates over the past three years:

2023 (5 rooms): 991 nights occupied out of 1,574 available nights resulting in occupancy rate of 63%.

2024 (15 rooms): 3,232 nights occupied out of 4,644 available nights, an occupancy rate of 70%.

*As of June 30, 2025 (15 rooms): 1,828 nights occupied out of 2,640 available nights, an occupancy rate of 69%.

Total (as of June 30, 2025): 6,051 nights occupied out of 8,858 available nights, an overall average occupancy rate of 67%

To date 330 patients and caregivers have walked into our doors with the following breakdown:

These figures include headcount only excluding repeat accommodation for patients and caregivers, demonstrating the ongoing need for our services.

Cost of Building the Entire Project $1 570 950.62

For third phase $304 000 has been raised so far.
